Someone who knows there stuff some help would be great! Or just some reassurance of some sort :-( lol

Well im depressed to say the least! My hopes of applying to medicine and getting in were shattered really! Got my results today, i have messed up big time! As follows, this is AS btw:

Biology - A (Only decent grade)
Chemistry - C (missing the B by about 24 marks)
Physics - C (missing the B by 21 marks)
Business - D (missing the C by 15 marks)

I admit though; that i worked hard for biology but i really didn't work at all for business and very little for physics and a fair-ish amount for chemistry, although i know i could have worked 1000 times harder! I still am in shock, i thought i had done well! no worse then AABB! guess not :-( My problems lie in the modules i did in june, in january i got very high marks. I guess my options are as follows,

- Resit the ones i messed up in for Chemistry & Physics and try and get atleast B's
- Get the business one rechecked! (im dropping this, a C would be awsome but i want to be realistic!)

Apply to unis that will wait for my resits, i assume they will look at my gcse's to see wether it is worth it? I have fairly decent GCSE's nothing amazing though although in my double award science i do have 2 A*'s. If to no prevail i will improve my results and take a gap year and apply and if i still dont get decent grades i will look towards Biomed and then doing medicine afterwards as a graduate!

Do i have any other options? Whats declining results about? I need some advice, i just need an offer from a uni i will work to fulfill it for sure! But who will offer me a chance with such grades? I am booking my UKCAT, what if i do well in that, will that back me up in anyway?

Dude!!!! Don't worry!
Those are just your AS levels!!!
My first batch of AS grades were
English- C
Media-D
ICT-U (whooh!!)
Sociology-D
And then when i reast most of my paper in Jan 07 i got
English- C (5 marks from a B)
Sciology- B (8 marks from an A)
ICT-D (whoooh!!!)

And with that today i got my A-LEVEL ressults which were
English -D
ICT-B
Sociology B (4 fucking marks off an A!!!!!)
All i can say is don't worry there is always Jan 08 for you to improve your AS grades :)
Good Luck!

Are you really? You need to first figure out why you got low grades and if you genuinely believe you are capable of higher grades, then perhaps seek some help in applying yourself and finding the most efficient and effective ways for you to learn so that you can get those grades up.

AABb should still be enough to get into most UK medical schools.

A levels used to be done at the end of the last two years of school but are now split into 2 single years: AS level followed by A2.

Hmm

As zaph has said, most unis require AABb for medicine.

So u need to maintain bio and resit modules for the other subjects in jan to get the marks up. not only do u want A's at AS but u want high A's (around 270/300 UMS) to give u firm standing in case A2s are trickier and u lose marks there.

thing is, u apply this october and the Unis will see

1) ur GCSES
2) ur UKAT
3) ur AS grades
4) ur Personal statement
5) ur tutors reference

A) do NOT submit ur AS grades. leave em blank

B) make sure ur teachers predict u AAA

C) make sure ur reference is awesome. it really helps if ur tutor writes something like 'i sincerley recommend untouchable90 for a career in medicine w/o any hesitation'

D) Apply carefully to unis - skip oxbridge, london, manchester, bham...apply to places like leeds, hyms, east anglia or peninsula. medicine is medicine, doesnt matter where u end up!

E) Concentrate solely on ur A-levels from now on. dont be disheartened if you find urself with no offers. if u get AABb at the end of next yr but have no offers, then just relax...sit back for a year, get up to alot of masti and reapply....u'll be getting unconditionals, inshaAllah ;)

Good luck.

From what i know an A in chemistry is a MUST AT A level for medicine, biology with a grade B would b good enough, you should have chosen maths instead of physics or both, physics A2 is fuking SOLID well was for me with AQA board, business is an absolutely shitty A level to do for a medic student to be, if you wanted to appear rounded you should have doen something like history/english. I pulled my chemistry grade up from a low B to a low A, if you could get a fucking A in biology then you could do it!!!!! Just do loads of past papers!

I did alright in most modules, just one module in every subject that i fucked up in so that brought the entire grade down. Im not dis heartened - anyone can get AAA in a level, jsut needs some hard work. Private tuition helps a lot, i got 90% in 2 maths modules purely cos of tuition.

its quite sad to see kids who are indifferent when it comes to getting crap grades.

and in your case..i would..

resit some of the modules, dont do them all as if you do, it is unlikely you will get a decent grade in any of your a levels (and the a2 stage counts for more)

resit the ones where you were off the higher grade by a few marks.

i retook only one exam whilst at school and that was history..i went from a U (one mark off an e) to an a (one mark off 100%)

however, its unlikely that will happen if you have more than one exam to redo.

if you are that determined to pass and not give up any of your "activities" you can do it.

i post whored a lot on rd before i did my finals as (as sad as it sounds) it was my "way out" after revising for days on end (as i was literally on lockdown), in a way i am glad i did it because that way i could control how much time i was on here for and then get back to my revision, unlike if i went out, i would get distracted and waste days on end.

the main problem with as levels is the fact that kids who get good gcse grades think that the as level is going to be the same thing but its not, the questions are more sly and you lose easy marks because you dont put down stuff.

its not a case of not knowing it, its a case of the examiners being eeeeeeeeevil.

people arent quick to realise that with each year you have to up your game, just because you get a year older, it will not mean that you have more "brains" and thus you only work as hard as you worked for your last exams.

i worked semi hard ( ) for my a levels and got decentish grades but had i worked to my full potential i could have gotten 3 a's, i dont really regret it though because i got to do what i wanted with life.

brother man, a levels are harder than uni.

the beauty of uni is that it is all in a book, thus you can miss lects and sems here and there, come to revision time just rape the textbooks and you will pass.

ot for all my stuff, we need lectures. I found AS easy, a level was hard but then i got lazy aswell.
To a certain extent i feel alevel was easier than uni stuff aswell, in terms of exam styles. Plus the fact that mine screws us over about resits

Thats some good advice! im going to leave my AS levels blank, rape my teacher till they predict me AAA and kill my tutor untill she gives me a sweet reference! Im going to apply: Brighton & sussex, Queen marry, Cardiff, Leeds (maybe manchester) and yeah if i dont get offers ill take a gap year then reapply as long as i get gd grades if not BIOmed it is then graduate medicine :-( 7YEARS! my uni work is harder than A-level. Our lecture booklets dont have all the information we need! So we have to go to lectures to add as much as we can. There are NO TEXTBOOKS for my course expect for 1 module which is engineering mathematics. The rest of the modules is covered by professors who are very specialised and give us lectures.

ACCD!!! :-( im gna make it ABBD or AABD even if it kills me....I dont know about AS-Levels... but in Scotland we have Highers.... now when i was 16 i completed my highers. never got a single A, but the uni's still accepted me.

unless the uni's specify to u what they want you to acheive in a particular subject, as long as u meet the requirement for UCAS points then ur sorted.

like me for example. i only needed a C in maths, and a total of 260 ucas points. i never got a single A, but i got BBBBC and that was enough to get me in

hey thats not bad. if u r weak in a subject then do another as insted of doing the a2, and you will end up with the same amount of points. Also thats the problem with double award, doesn;t prepare yopu enough for a levels, if u had triple award, you would be better prepared . I had the same problem.
