like i said she aint her mum...well, i think i've gone through a similar phase. i'm the eldest of all my siblings and cousins and i'm really glad i usually know what to say and how to say it to get something across without coming across as condescending.

kids already have parents, and in our culture, it's very difficult for many to be as open to parents due to the consequences that could take place. infact, a lot of them are not able to enjoy open/honest relationships with their parents for many reasons.... it's easier to be able to get things across if they view as an older/mature friend/mentor who they can share anything with and if that connection is established...then they are definitely more open to what you have to say as well, especially because chances are that they will usually ask for your opinion regarding it.

i'm definitely glad you brought it up though because i don't think anyone in here mentioned that including me

and while it would help to seek out someone who's older, mature, and may have that connection more with this girl, i think the threadmaker should approach that after her own attempts to get through to the girl have failed. but yes, it will be very important on how the threadmaker goes about speaking to her about this sensitive issue as it seems like the girl has already begun to push her away.
