this is what someone wrote:
Q. 13:3 And He it is who hath outstretched the earth, and placed on it the firm mountains Madda
Q. 15:19 And the earth have WE spread out Madadnaha
Q. 20:53 [since he is the One] Who has laid out the earth as a carpet for you Mahdan`
Q. 2:22 Who made the earth a bed for you, and the heaven a roof Firasha
Q. 43:10 (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out Mahdan`
Q. 50:6-7 What, have they not beheld heaven above them, how we have built it, and decked it out fair, and it has no cracks? And the earth -- We stretched it forth, and cast on it firm mountains, and we caused to grow therein of every joyous kind Madadnaha
Q. 51:48 And the earth we have spread out, and how excellently do we spread it out! Farashnaha
Q. 71:19 And God has laid the earth for you as a carpet Bisata
Q. 78:6 Have WE not made the earth as a bed, And the mountains as pegs Mihada
Q. 79:27-30 What, are you stronger in constitution or the heaven He built? He lifted up its vault, and levelled it, and darkened its night, and brought forth its forenoon; and the earth - after that He spread it out... Dahaha
Q. 88:20 Nor even how the earth has been flattened out? Sutehat
Q. 91:5-6 By the heaven and that which built it and by the earth and That which extended it! Tahaha
Quran described the shape of earth using the following Arabic words:
Madda, Madadnaha, Firasha, Mahdan, Farashnaha, Bisata, Mihada, Dahaha, Tahaha and Sutehat.
Every one of them means FLAT.
it pissed me off initially then i googled it, and eveyrwher it says the quran says the earth is flat, i thought its propoganda at first against muslims by jewish websites but upon reading the verses in my copy theyre the same, which left me dilematic.

if you truely have faith in your beliefs, no one else can take that away from you or make you lose it. you either have it or you don't. the very fact that it is causing doubts in your own mind about your religion is not a good sign. first ask yourself, do you innately believe in the teachings of your religion, accepting them to be always right in whatever it teaches, or do you speculate and reflect until you are convinced that this is the right way, or do you follow your faith blindly and become angry/doubtful when someone opposes it (which is stupid, because instead of becoming all worked up about someone else's opinions, no matter how contrary they may be to yours, they are still entitled to it. and there will always be those who oppose your beliefs and do not see eye-to-eye with you...so the best you can do is explain and justify why you believe what you do, and why you do what you do...and not just because "that's what the book says" or "that's what we are taught" there has to be an element of self-realization and self-thought into this)
I'm a hindu girl, but I know that I don't consider myself to be a completely devoted orthodox hindu in the sense that other hindus maybe. I try to learn about my culture, and the teachings of the vedas along with other religious texts. I find things that I agree with and things that I don't. Hence, I feel like i'm more spiritual than I am religious and that's totally fine with me. No one can convince me otherwise even if they disagree with me, because I came to be like that on my own terms instead of just taking what was said at face value and agreeing with it blindly. I always question things, and don't just accept them because that's what the pundit said, or that's what my parents said, or that's what the texts say. You have to come to a point of where you question it and reflect upon religion by yourself, and i don't feel that it's necessary to agree word-for word and to take everything so literally. One should be comfortable enough to accept what is felt to be right, and justified, and not because "they said so"...
Anyway, people will always interpret things as they see it, and it's a useless exercise trying to argue with them or convince them otherwise. They will come to do that themselves in their own time, provided that they have the self-suffiency and independent thought to do so. you should just calmly and civilly tell him that whist some may misinterpret the teachings of islam, the way you interpret islam to be is.....<insert your opinions>.....and that you solidly believe in these things, not because of the way that they are written, but because of how they guide you to be a better person and lead your life better in whatever way that it does.

Hi, For me it does not matter how the religion makes me a better person because most major religions tend to have good values. But Islam just seemed right to me, I admit a lot because of the fact that I was born a muslim into a muslim family, it seemed to make sense the idea of God but when I hear things like this and read the Quran, I DO NOT want to follow it just because its a set of rules that might make me better, i want to follow it so that i can reach God correctly and the flaws some of those forum posts describe, hurt me, anger me but I can do nothing about them because they are true.
I admit I have followed Islam only because my parents taught me and it seemed right, a bit blind yes, this kind of stuff opens my eyes a bit, but always gives me second thoughts..

i've never been able to understand why religious types need a majority consensus or need others agree with the faith and beliefs...?
i mean i'm all for proving ppl wrong and all...
but if its something as personal as ur faith then regardless of who says what... it shudn't matter and shudnt have any affect on what you believe...

in that case... you're problem isnt needing others to help you respond to douchebags online...
but instead you should be researching and looking into Islam on your own... the many interpretations, concepts, etc... then noticing if the values taught by Islam conflict with your personal sence of right and wrong...
if so... then you've got a LOT more thinkin and reflection to do.

no religion is perfect, just stick to your beliefs its as simple as that.
I want the true answer though! I get inspiration from other religions not just Islam, I was born into Islam which has guided me a lot, but the way other religions work also inspires myself, for example Buddha how he wanted to find out why we live and suffer etc he went and found God.
I am trying to do the same thing and feel setback whenever i hear these flaws in my religion, but then you are right there are flaws in every religion so what the hell is right! confussed :(

it seems to me in your case, you've just been ignorant about Islam (not accusing you or anything... so dont get defensive) and have just been following it because you were taught to...
so my suggestion would be to research as much as you can bout Islam and then re-evaluate your life and your values...

zzahmad786 do we look stupid? Or should i say Kamalsheet.
I can refute it easily, quraan does not say earth is flat, it infact stress's that the earth is round, not only that during Muslim spain, the scholars also discovered our planet earth is slightly tilted at an angle. Answering-islam was refuted in a debate, which you can find on youtube.

asalam aleykum, zzahmad786
there is no reason to believe in those claims. These r clear misinterpretations of verses of quran
u can't just accept wotever's published online u dunno who published it, what is their motivation behind it, also dont rely on any youtube vidz either, u learn ur deen from quran n sunnnah. so stay away from those ppl that r out there to propagate mislam, rather follow islam as taught by the prophet.
Quran 6:116 And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying.
read quran's tafsir which tells u the CORRECT interpretations of quran like ibn kathir @ www.tafsir.com and if u have questions, look at sites like islamqa.com or islamonline.net where thousands of questions like your's and others are answered daily.
Quran 5:105 O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided. To Allah is you return all together; then He will inform you of what you used to do.
May Allah guide us all.
