I wouldnt call them crap...at least not as the Box Office suggests
And tbh he is the only actor who has that audacity due to his acting ability and skill, which arguably makes him the finest actor to walk the earth.

Ok my little lost cherub
Lets disect
Success to home market means people on seats, which means more money for them to make. Success to the big studios means getting story and storylines which the target audience want\like.
So they dnt care what some little imaterial object thinks sitting behind his\her computer moaning and bitching......they care what the mass think.....and to them......if the mass are paying! it generally translates to them doing something right.
In this case, a good story etc is subjective and down to ones opinion.
I thought Baabul and Eklavya was good and different....so it goes with taste and who is watching. All theree have done VERY well in the India and NRI market..so the story must have been appealing to the general masses!
Lesson closed!

Baabul bombed?...erm I think youll find that in majority of territories it did well in the opening weeks and recouped all its cash plus profit.
I think anyone can be criticised, at the end of the day its not a single actor that makes movie, its a production unit. So to blame one person for the failure is a little childish or misinformed. You can blame him for his choice of movie and choice of script....but no actor can be blamed for the failure of the movie...one actor doesnt make a movie...even if it is AB

first off: his last three releases were actually CHEENI KUM, SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA and NISHABD...
CHEENI KUM is too early to tell...
SHOOTOUT has gotten a very good responce so far,
and NISHABD dared to do what other indian films still to this day consider taboo...

he does go through some bad streaks. But overall his work is exceptional. And more often than not, he will make a real classic like, Black.

persoanlly i think he holding to a status he lost long time ago to the new boy on the block. (srk and ammir. yo sixpaq gq. big up ur bro. these too guys make more money overseas then mr amithab does.)
i think he needs to call down on the number of movies he makes and take a leaf out of srk, hithrik roshan and amir khans books. thses guys if ur lucky will realised 1-2 movies a year. but will do comeos thats it.
ab needs to do a sci-fi movie where he a real villian or even a pirate movie. or even porn. im not too sure if he dunda big he only got two kids :(

I think he has that status and respect as he only one who can command it. Who else is there that you can even remotely compare?
SRK? - Incomplete actor, overacts, is very limited in his acting skills and ability , cant pull of major macho roles, as proved in Don for example. Aside from that, theres no denying that as a Brand he was up until December the BIGGEST marketing machine in India. Not so now with the Bachans all together.
Amir Khan : the only guy in the entire industry that can be compared to Amitabh. He can do a whole host of roles, is extremely talented, and has provde this via his acting in multiple genres.
Hirthik? - Way tooo early....and needs another few years, and also needs to follow up on Dhoom 2 success and no rely on Daddy to pump the cash in his movies.
You gota give respect and credit where its due.....and AB is probably the finest actor we'll all see in our lifetimes...there rest are merely going to be wannabes and place holders.....

srk oversea sales speak volumes. in india ab got a cult following. but he cant amke a succesful movie on his own any more. most of his international hits have been with srk in it. rest have done ok. srk is teh msot bankable star.
personally srk only does movies that he knows ppl will go out to watch. same roles. srk don was actually quite good compare to teh first one. i didnt reali like teh first one. he can playy a cold eharted killer very well bazigar, darr. i think eh paly the nutter quite well

Amitabh is more recognized internationaly than any other actor within the Indian Film Industry...
In July of 1999, Amitabh Bachchan was named the "Greatest Star of the Millennium" by BBC online poll where he defeated many Hollywood legends such as Alec Guinness, Marlon Brando, Sir Laurence Olivier and Charlie Chaplin.
March of 2001, he was ranked as the "Most powerful actor in Bollywood" by the American publishing and media company Forbes.
In 2003, he was honoured at the Hong Kong International Film Festival.
In December of 2004, he became the first Asian and only the fifth ambassador for the Nelson Mandela Foundation
On January 27, 2007 he has been awarded France's highest civilian honour, Legion of Honour for his "exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond".
He will be honoured this month by British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in London with a retrospective of his films
thats just a select few... there's more at

If you wanna make comparisons based on international reach... in that case:
SRK's films do well overseas with the South Asian audience... especialy withing the females aged 15 to 45 group...
Amitabh Bachchan's films' reach beyond the South Asian audiences and the demographic for his films include critics like Roger Ebert from EBERT & ROEPER and other insiders of the Hollywood film industry as well as other film industries around the globe...
SRK's concerts might get mobbed by teengage girls from all over...
but the house is full with a mostly non-Indian crowd when Amitabh Bachchan's films are screened at a prestigious theater in New York City...

SRK has a large following for NRI, but in terms of demographics et al he wouldnt be able to touch Amitabh Bachchan.
Only thing SRK is good at is either buying people off, or getting in with production houses and then deciding who is to star in the movies and how much he can cut out of films to give him moer screen space. He himself knows that he isnt a versatile actor; and he as far tooo many flaws. Of coursethat means nothing at the box office, as the younger age range will go to see it as thats all they know..SRK....
In terms of Don, there was actually nothing Don about him....from the word go to the end...he had difficulti trying to portray the two characters, and was doing so much to copy AB. Yet after the filmreleased, he says you cant cmpare the two films? HEY? How does that work out? You do a REMAKE of DON, you use same dialogues, same classic song, and then you dont want to compare them?..lol.
Bankable Yes. Talentless Yes. Will he reach super AB status? No.

given only sex and sharuk khan sells in bollywood it is not surprising every actor and actress has to work in commercial flicks to get by. that was probably the most redundant statement of the century.
i don't follow bollywood too much but the last good movie with amitabh i saw was Sarkar.

lol... i kew someone was gonna correct me...
i actualy meant his best recent work :p
but yea, the greatest in terms of the typical angry man roles would have to go to ANGEEPATH, SHOLAY, DEEWAR, ZANJEER!!
in all honesty, as great as BLACK was, i wasnt that impressed...
there's a LOT of other art/independant indian films that deal w/ harder issues, produced w/ no holds barred that are a LOT better than BLACK...
