SHera Punjab is a concept belonging to great punjabi personalities in the past and present:
1. Maharajah Ranjit Singh-jatt sikh ruler of united Punjab (1780-1836) who allied the Sikh confederacies
2. The great Gama (alias Muhammad Gama)-undefeated punjab muslim (jatt ?) Pahwalan wrestler (kushti) who brought India great prestige through wrestling Europen strongmen and defeating them during the late 1800s and early 1900s. in 1947, he left amritsar to lahore, pakistan. he died undefeated.
and there are many more...
shere punjab is title or term to encourage others to resemble these fine men of great characteristics that define the Punjabi.

Sher E Punjab

"Sher-e-Punjab" ("The Lion of the Punjab") (1780-1839) was a Sikh emperor of the Sikh Empire.
http://www.sikh-history.com/sikhhist/images/portraits/drbr-ran.jpg
Ranjit Singh, the Lion (shere) of the Punjab, is sometimes compared to the Mughal Emperor Akbar (1542-1607). Both succeeded their fathers at the age of twelve, both had long and prosperous reigns, considerably extended their empires and both married women from other religions in addition to their own in what appears to be a genuine effort to be non-sectarian. Both had little of no formal education but possessed an insatiable curiosity which left the people they quizzed exhausted. Both were succeeded by children not quite as worthy as their illustrious fathers. In the annals of Indian history they rank as tow of its most charismatic and likeable rulers.
http://www.sikh-history.com/sikhhist/images/portraits/multana.jpg
Ranjit Singh succeeded his father at the young age of 12. After several campaigns, his rivals accepted him as their leader, and he united the Sikh factions into one state.
Ranjit Singh took the title of Maharaja on April 12, 1801 (to coincide with Baisakhi day). Lahore served as his capital from 1799. In 1802 he took the holy city of Amritsar.
http://www.info-sikh.com/Ranjit1.jpghttp://www.info-sikh.com/Ranjit41.jpg
For more than a thousand years invaders had come down from the Khyber pass and ruled eastern lands. Ranjit Singh reversed this trend. When the Sikh empire finally fell to the English, they were able to retain this province.
http://www.info-sikh.com/RanSingh18.JPG
Singh also hired European mercenaries to train his troops, creating the first modern Indian Army- the Sikh Khalsa Army, a powerful military force whose presence delayed the eventual British colonization of Punjab.
He created a powerful and heavily armed state one of his close friend Pran Sukh Yadav who was an able military commander of Narnaul brought various feudal forces and militias of Southern Punjab (now known as Haryana) under his hegemony; at this point, Punjab was the only state not controlled by the British.
http://www.info-sikh.com/piczz13.jpg
He brought law and order, yet was reluctant to use the death penalty. He stopped Indian non-secular style practises by treating Hindus and Muslims equally. He banned the discriminatory "jizya" tax on Hindus and Sikhs.
He would often roam in streets of Lahore in disguise to check his rule, whether people are happy or not.
Although he was a devout Sikh but he cannot be called a strict Khalsa sikh adhering to all the principles of Sikhism. He was a very well disciplined soldier of Khalsa who was also a secular as well as enjoying his life, like drinking, etc. and secured them the status of sovereign people.
http://www.info-sikh.com/HHar-pre1901.jpg
He was a benevolent king. Eventhough the Government of Punjab was called Sarkar Khalsa but no laws were imposed on any of the minority or majority. Sikhs at his time were about 15% of whole population, hindus around 25%, rest were Muslims. He governed the fourty years of his rule from Lahore with secular ideals. He would fast with Mulsims during Ramadan and play Holi with Hindus., yet he would be at Amritsar almost every Month to take bath in the scared waters.

Shere Punjab Vs Chalvey Boyz, 14.10.05
There may be calm right now on the streets of Slough hit by gang violence eight years ago, but Eastern Eye has found teenagers poised to restart one of the bitterest inter-Asian conflicts.
Muslim schoolboys, whose parents hope would be concentrating on their exams, openly talk about taking revenge on Sikhs. They are waiting for the right time to strike, learning in the meantime from their older brothers who started the initial troubles. The fights will lead to bloodshed in Slough.
That is the scene in Chalvey, a predominately Muslim district of Slough, where underneath a superficial layer of harmony broods a sense of cultural tension.
It dates back to the ugly scenes of April 1997, when an 80-strong gang known as the Shere-e-Punjab, a Birmingham-based group, arrived in the town waving Sikh flags before attacking homes and cars.
They were there to fight the Chalvey Boyz, Islamic extremists who had been cautioned by the police only months earlier for threatening non-Muslim students outside a college in nearby Hounslow.
Tensions between the two gangs had existed before then and there are rumours Shere members never wore green, the national colour of Pakistan, and Chalvey members did not dress in orange, a colour strongly linked with India.
The inevitable clash between the two gangs eventually took place in Chalvey.
A large-scale police presence prevented any deaths and more than 90 of the culprits were arrested.
Since then, the area has recovered and now only minor scuffles between two or three teenagers are reported to officers, but as EE discovered this week, that may not be the case for too long.
In The Crescent, the road where the worst of the 1997 fighting took place, we met ‘Tiff’, a 17-year-old who has devoted himself to the new generation of Chalvey Boyz.
Tiff said: "My best friend’s brother was a Chalvey, he was there in 1997 and has told us all about what happened.
"We are ready to fight again, this battle has not finished and many of us want revenge."
This hunger for pay-back among younger boys in the area is a passion Mandeep Sira is fully aware of.
She is project manager for Aik Saath, a conflict resolution group set up in Slough immediately after the clashes.
The organisation has worked hard in schools and youth centres across the area to emphasise the message that racist clashes between Muslims and Sikhs are based on false views of each other’s cultures.
According to Ms Sira, it has had a powerful effect, but the issue of hatred still remains between the two large communities, which combined make up nearly a quarter of Slough’s 119,067-strong population.
She said: "The majority of Asian schoolchildren want to combat the image that all Muslims and Sikhs are in gangs and want to be violent, but tensions are still lurking.
"We know that the two gangs are not actively recruiting from schools like they were about a decade ago, but unfortunately, many of the older gang members are now trying to influence their younger siblings.
"It should be remembered that alongside the rivalry, drugs and low self-esteem have also played a part in the stand-off between the Sikh and Muslim community. They have to be tackled as well."
This will be harder for Aik Saath to do unless a source of funding is found soon. The group needs £80,000 to continue running next year and has so far failed to find a backer. In light of the rising tensions, it is no wonder project development worker Rob Deeks has described the current situation as "extremely serious".
Back in Chalvey, however, there is little sense among the local community that anything violent is about to erupt.
Malik Hussain, owner of travel agents Royal Travels, has lived in the district for more than 20 years. He said: "I was here in 1997 when the violence happened. It was terrifying and a worry for everybody.
"Thankfully, nothing like that has happened since and I do not think it will again. People of many races now work and live here together in peace."
Walking through The Crescent, only yards away from ‘Tiff’, Nasir Lodhi (pictured), 26, is also oblivious to any future feuds.
He said: "I have been living in Slough for a year and there has been no race violence in that time. It seems very safe here."
Determined to calm any tension which may erupt in the future, Slough Council has just launched the Slough Faith Partnership, a multi-agency group made up of Sikh, Muslim, Christian and Quaker community leaders. It will meet every three months to discuss issues within each community.
Rafiq Chohan, the council’s head of equalities and economic development, said: "We have not taken our eye of the ball and become complacent. This is a diverse town and the different groups have different issues, so it is important we address them all.
"The violence of 1997 was partly down to the fact that unemployment among young people at that time was high and so many turned to violence. That is not so much the case now, but there are still definitely concerns.

It's got jack all to do with religion. But some brain dead paki muslims seem to think its ok to assault the non-believers and their places of worship becos allah said they could in the quran. Thats how this beef started in 1995 and thats how it will always starts..... you'll never see a Sikh go around attacking muslims first... it's always after, that Sikhs retaliate.

Hey scum face.
Why do you think the SP was formed????? Because of you fundamentalist that think its right to attack / convert, the non believers.
The fact is because the sikhs brought the Mogul Empire down to its knees, is why the muslims hate us. It is very embarassing for you musilms to read up on history and to find out that a handful of sikhs not only won victories but crushed the mogul empire, under the then Banda Singh Bahadur.
The world on Terror that Mr Bush is fighting, is nothing new. We sikhs were fighting the fundamentalist back in the 1600/1700 century.
Did you not read the article above?? Muslim fundamentalists were bullying sikh boys/girls at college and school. Especially in Slough, they were saying leave our schools and go to another school, like they think its there turf.
SP where created to protect the sikhs, they started off with religious sikhs, that kept there full beards, turbans, and they vowed to protect the sikh religion from islamic fundamentalist, BNP etc. But if you see them now, they are mostly thugs, un religious, rude boys.

SP never disbanded, they are still around on the streets of Bham especially, they have subnames like Sikh Alliance and are a group of Sikh and Hindu punjabis protecting Sikh and Hindu girls being lured/manipulated by Muslim boys, these Muslim boys are usually funded by Mosques to convert which are in turn funded by Pakistani and Saudi Arabian sources.
SP rejects end up in places like Bham's Johson Crew (bunch of black people that are a bit serious than just fighting, get into gun crime n stuff) and Nottingham based shootings, tho few are into that.
The majority of the time the Pakistani Muslims start the havoc, Sikhs and Hindus are always the one to retaliate and shut them up.

man u guys shouldn't even be fighting or arguing over this bullshit. Sikhs fought against all oppressors when the time called for it. In my opinion, i believe that the Sikhs in those days never targeted a religion to fight against but instead fought against those who were misled by corruption and corrupted acts. every religious group or institution has some form of corruption, whether it be big or small. for u guys to say "yo if my people went 2 ur turf we'd fuk u's up coz of this n that" is stupid and senseless. ur obviously caught up in ur own arrogance, ignorant to the reasons as to why ur people fought back in the days when it was needed.

Im proud of my brave ancestory but how does it feel for a paki knowing their ancestors were bent over and raped and then converted while they feared for their lives. Its the truth as well.

who were they.
They were a gang formed in the mid 80's by sikhs in Smethwick/Handsworth to potect the sikh community from attacks and forced conversions of sikh girls by extermist muslims. Then they were shut down in 1997 as there was no need for them to be around as the extemists had the shit kicked outta them. But a lot of drug dealers used their name aswell as they had a lot of stret cred and had a lot of beef with pakistani drugs gangs i.e. paki panthers from aston. Nowadays only these lil kids go around pretendin to be them nd taggin SP everywhere.

That is not so much the case now, but there are still definitely concerns.
thats a really good artilce.
