I think the difference largely lies in cohabitation & exclusivity:

girlfriend: likely to be exclusive / probably not cohabiting

concubine: not exclusive - concubines are one of many / cohabiting in the mans palace/home/etc

mistress: not exclusive - the man has a wife and this is his other woman / not cohabiting


so basically a mistress is a girlfriend to a man that is married
a concubine is a girlfriend to a man with many girlfriends/wives

Jat Jatt, always appreciate your posts. I have been lurking for a while and your posts are insightful & interesting. I think an even more important distinction is the difference between slut and whore. Two words that are always used interchangably but actually have very different meanings.

A slut is a woman that enjoys having sex with a large number of males simply for the sex.

A whore (ho) on the other hand has sex but expects something in return.

ie: girl that sleeps with her boss to get a promotion... --> likely a whore
ie: girl that sleeps with every guy in a fraternity ---> much more likely to be a slut UNLESS sleeping with them has provided her popularity or social status

better yet is the slut-ho

ie: pharm rep that has slept with every doctor in the hospital & every biker dude you could imagine --> sleeping with the physicians increases her sales THUS whore, but b/c she has slept with the bikers with possibly no favors in return she is a slut: now she is a SLUT-HO (you're welcome ;) )

Jat Jatt, if you are sincerely looking for a wife, you have to watch out for these types... I would estimate they are around 65% of the general population of dateable women. (just an estimate) That being said, there are lots of great women out there ... beautiful, intelligent, smart, trusting & trustworthy. You won't find many of them on this site, they would think its retarded & shallow.

In general from the way you speak about your views and your life you will naturally either pull one of these quality women or a slut-ho who has passed her shelf-life (~32 y/o) and needs a guy she can use. Be careful bro, don't wait to long to get married ;)

I think historically a girlfriend and mistress may have been interchangable, but a concubine has always implied cohabitation.

Now I feel like they are very well defined.
