Whats your opinion on this business?
How do you like the advertising?
Value for money?
When you think of Marks and Spencer do you think of something fancy or just a generic store similar to Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury's?

Business is gud.
Advertising is getting a bit old now.
Nothing in M&S is value for money.
something for old pensioners.

very much so.

*N!K!TA* - what about the quality of the products?

HS786 - is it the products they produce that appeal to those of an older age or is it the way the whole company is seen?

If you need any advice on it let me know...I did 17 months with them...during the main time when Stuart Rose came in and made fundamental changes across the entire business.

In terms of is it a succes?...Well catergorically Yes. Its one of the most talked about turnarounds in the City. But it was ful of fun politicts with Stuart Rose being a Philip Green pedigree and then the previous takeover bid from Green etc

I tink der quality is really good! so its worth the money i guess but i dont think most people would do their weekly shopping there, although some may, the majority would just go to sainsburys or sumtink..

well they've changed their tact in the modern commercial era, their previous failings resulted from bad marketing and being known as an old fogeys kinda place, now the adverts are very striking and to the point giving an air of high quality products
i heard the original company was set up by two russians?

Id have to agree....M&S was shite until 2.5 years back..having been on the other side...I can say that there quality and control is the most strict in the entire UK industry across all there offerings. There food is second to none....and there clothing range is not to be laughed at anymore

But it still does not appeal to the children (12-16 year olds) hence why the old school reputation still exists....but you need to understand that M&S is about Quality.

Anyway....thats what I got from working there...and moving on and seeing other sectors.

right and is then reason for that because of the pricing that M&S have would you say?

HS786 - interesting now what would you be more than likely to buy if you were to shop there? i.e. groceries? or clothes? both?

yeh quality form M&S is the only reason why some people buy it , but if they lowered their price a bit a whole lot more people would buy their stuff

yeah i think so..definatly the pricing..and im not sure if im rite but i dont think that M&S is as local for many people as the nearest tesco's would b? so they may find it easier to go to another supermarket

also the adverts have become so prolific that they've been "bashed" as such by comedians and the like. I still don't think that they give off a surefire high quality concept towards everything its more of the idea that they're still developing into this high-class somewhat expensive brand.

JayJai - most definitetly. Recently I saw in the papers that they're starting these new eco-stores, so that'd mean the company would be a somewhat pioneer in how supermarkets deal with the environment.

ahh wonderful thats an idea i'd forgotten the fact that there are all these tesco metro's/sainsbury's locals popping up. I think M&S is still playing catchup with its competitors as it did with sainsbury's when they'd launched their own clothing line.

well no news is bad news when it comes to the media
in comparison to supermarkets, even in their juvenile state, i'd say marks n sparks give off the image of higher quality purely because supermarkets sell cheap stuff because of their large purchasing power
if you think of the adverts, m and s concentrate on selling the product whereas someone like tesco sells you the fact they sell everything, and cheaply

yeah true, then there are stores like waitrose etc. the 'borderline' supermarkets selling a mass of goods, but also appealing to "classier" consumers.

advertising is aimed more at the intellects in life i find, well its NOT but tis the way it comes across, with all that mood lighting and the woman with the seductive voice, kinda like makes you think that if you eat their food youre considerably richer than those who shop at places like the 'bury.

the advertising is too "we are prim and proper, thus better than you"

value for money? 3 quid for a wrap? no thank you! I'll tell you a story that will send shivers down your spine. My mate bought one wrap from marks, it was 2.90, i went to greggs and got a sandwich (baguette thingy) and a pizza bread AND a lemon cake for less than 2.90. Yeah, thats your value for money..I shouldnt expect jews to play fair though.

i used to think marks was for grannies, now i know it is. The shop still tries to look inside as if its for the more posher customer but it aint shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

:werd: sainsbury's is the shit
but under Uniwersity regulations I'm told I must fulfil my Spencery Duties :(

Thats exactly what i think about the advertising when I see it... whereby they put too much effort in making their products/brand seem more precious then they really are.

We tore into some M&S prawn crackers yesterday finished the whole bag in 20mins, and they weren't even that tasty. You're right about the food to an extent, because there are some rich widows whom love to shell out money for food they cannot taste.

their food isnt as nice as you would expect it to be for the price you pay, their sweet stuff like biscuits and that are "below par" (lol, white boys are funny)

me and simon argue about whether to go to sainsburys or tescos EVERY SINGLE TIME WE NEED TO GET FOOD

yeah had milan on the old matsui was a bit boring, gilardino missed 5/6 chances, gatusso grazed the near post it was alright I guess, I just pray they let a lot of people into the G.M. so they can create that hostile atmosphere that opposing teams usually find keep them on tenterhooks.

I think of M and S to be far in front of competetive supermarkets i.e. Asda/Tesco

I was rather shocked to find you can purchase bread at M and S for under a pound. And the groceries in general are normal priced. But yeah, I was shocked.

It just has a very high status :|
