not sure of that... from what I've seen a surge of loyalists got created after his hanging, not so much before, so imprisonment would have kept this figure low overall alongside the fact the U.S. was hunting down loyalists long before his hanging... not forgetting the fact he isn't exactly young either so in all probability would have died in prison.
