Oh.

Well, depends on what you think is "not so good" -- if its actually artificial, I'd ask "what the hell? why?" but I wouldn't call off the deal.

If by "not so good" you mean "doesn't live up to your standards", I'd accept it anyway. At least he bought something.

I don't.

I just want a good husband. I want a nice ring ofcourse, but I'm not irrational, I'll take whatever he can afford.

What? A ring? I see it as tradition, so I think its pretty important. I'd be a little ticked off if it was artificial, but calling off the whole thing is going a bit too far.

why is a tradition considered.. important, after all it's only a cliched tradition, why does it have to be practiced to signify a lifestyle

Haven't any of ya'll read a psychology book. Women, when choosing their partners, look for stability, meaning money, over attractiveness. Men basically want trophy wives.

And us being desis, you should know that this trend of desi girls who want a lux lifestyle without any hard work will not die out anytime soon. Most of our kind are gold diggers. Deal with it?

Personally, I am not. But when choosing a partner, I'm going to look for an educated man. But education does not always = $.

Would you be disappointed if your wife showed up to your wedding wearing jeans and a t-shirt. It was pretty clear from her post that she was referring to the indifference shown by buying a plastic ring, not the actual value of the ring.

All of them? I wasn't too sure about the wedding band, because some of my aunts have a silver one, and I thought I could just ask for a silver wedding band.

Strangely, I am wearing a gold ring right now..... yes, I've realized that just made me sound like a total hypocrite.. maybe I should have worded it to "gold is not my first preference".

Oh i planned my ring, and gave it to him, and then he proposed. It was magical.

versus.

We were ________, and out of nowhere, there he was with eyes blah blah blah, insert emotion, i was speechless, bla bla.

The latter is WAYYYYYYYY better.

Oh you know I was at the Bean taking pics, and this guy proposed to his woman. It was beautiful, I just wanted to go hug them.

well its different for everyone.

i can tell him how i want and then he can "magically" whip it out of "nowhere" sometime..and it'lll stil lbe "romantic"

Girls are very idealistic. Coupled with the desi genome, you'd expect at least on a subconscious level to think about whether the ring is suitable. Consider these two thought processes:
1\This ring is ugly, he doesn't know my tastes. Hmm, he doesn't know me at all... I guess he isn't right for me or it isn't the right time.
2\This was not how i pictured it in my dream =(
