" Riding high on the Indo-Pak cricket wave, Indian commercial banks are moving the finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to set up shop in Pakistan.
The list of banks that are seeking a presence in Pakistan includes the State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and Jammu & Kashmir Bank. ICICI Bank, too, is keen to tap the market, even though Pakistan is not on the bank’s radar screen at the moment. "

the problem is that you think i don't know anything about islam. or that i have been exposed to islam only through anti-muslim propaganda.
however, 95% of my knowledge of islam comes from islamic forums. what i found is that the more i read up on islam, the more i realized how accurate my "misconceptions" were. i may exaggerate, and you capitalize off of that. but i dont have to exaggerate. furthermore, even the exaggerations i presented in this thread are completely accurate.

Actually if you really want to learn about Islam i suggest you go read the Quran instead of wasting your time in islamic forums
The Quran with translations in over 30 languages is available on the internet and there is no better source out there to find out about islam

Eh cool, the fact is people distort the quotations by quoting them out of context to prove some point they are trying to make.
As for hadiths, there really is no way of telling if they are authentic or not. So i limit myself to the Quran.

They do
Its called Zakaat, every muslim has to give atleast 2.5% or something like that of their earnings to the poor and needy.
Not taking interest is another way of ensuring that the poor are being helped
Btw its Sir not Madam

2.5%? So that is what God has defined as being the proper amount? That ensures that the poor are being helped?
I thought it would be more like "Just do with what you need to fulfill your needs. The rest - dont be greedy and help as many as you can." I belive that is the rule that Hindus/Buddhists are supposed to follow. Rather than forcing one to give up his money, these religions leave it up to the individual. Please correct me if Im wrong.

Its 2.5% AT THE LEAST, however one should do his utmost to help the needy. Not charging interest is another way of ensuring help for the poor.

Youre forcing someone though. It should be an option.
Plus, how do banks make money if they dont charge anyone interest? What if you take out a loan? If you put money in a bank, do you get interest?

2.5% of your money is given to the poor....It's not forced on all muslims i.e. the poor...but for wealthy muslims it is mandatory to purify your wealth. it helps flow money back to the poor people.
Allah, of course, does not personally feed anyone:
And when they are told, "Spend ye of (the bounties) with which God has provided you," the Unbelievers say to those who believe: "Shall we then feed those whom, if God had so willed, He would have fed, (Himself)?- Ye are in nothing but manifest error." [Yusuf Ali (36:47)]
Allah fulfills this promise by creating the resources for the nourishment and growth of all moving creatures. No one, therefore, has the right to own or control the Allah-given natural resources or to restrict their flow to humanity at large (107:7, 17:20). Otherwise, this is tantamount to belying the Deen of Allah (107:1-6). Any association or partnership with Allah in this respect is Shirk, an unforgivable sin in the sight of Allah. Allah says:
"Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; Kill not your children on a plea of Want—We provide sustenance for you and for them." [Yusuf Ali 6:151]
A majority of Muslims mpay more charity which is classified as Sadaqat....it has many rewards in the hereafter.....many muslims provide charity by being doctors, volunteers, teachers, imams, nurses, etc.....

banks should recieve federal funding...It should not be profiting from interest and ruining people's lives many of whom are poor...

ok, where does the government get the money?
why isnt there a fixed percentage (i.e. 2.5%) for storeowners to limit their profit margins to? the rest can surely feed many poor, or at least lower the stores prices.

What is the definition of being poor in Pakistan?
What about people who run their businesses through Black Money - do they have to pay 2.5% also?
Do you think its fair to punish the rich by making it "mandatory" to give up their money to help people who choose not to work?

Why would any rich person put their money in a bank? It makes no sense. You dont get interest and they actually take away 2.5% (minimum) from you. If a bank receives federeal funding, then the rich have to provide for that too - because poor people dont have money to pay taxes. Its not fair at all to hard working citizens who make honest livings - no wonder so many poeple have black money.

The bank doesnt take away 2.5% from you. Its upto the individual himself to spend the 2.5% or more or less or nothing at all if he so chooses. He will pay for his actions or lack of in the afterlife.
Islam is not just a religion , its a way of life, not just for the individual but an entire society and to run a society effectively you have to have rules and regulations and checks and balances .
