why:
-free checking and savings
-no minimum balances
-direct deposit from work
-you get $50 for opening an account w/ direct deposit.
-because the PNC back ATMs allow you to cash/deposit checks for free.
-every wawa around here has a PNC atm, and the philly suburbs are all about teh wawa.

ohh i pay no annual fee for it...it depends what level you take..if u take the 1 mile for every 40$ u spend its free...or the gold which is 1 mile for every 15$ spent (80 dollar annual fee with lower interest rates). they even have a silver one. 1 mile for every 20$ for like (40$ a year). it definetly boosts ur airmiles fast man. it took me 17 airmiles for like 2 years. at like selected locations..with this card which i got like 6 months ago i got like 400 now. i just pay everything with that card.

bad thing about aeroplan now...u have 7 years to use ur aeroplan miles and then they thrash it =/. airmiles doesn't have that bullshit right now. i want ING as well, but they have like ONE place for the banking in montreal. its really inconvenient, but i guess thats how they affford to pay such high rates.

oh i see, that's actually pretty good, much better than the airmiles crap, i have airmiles card that i use at safeway some times and so far all i got are 50 miles.

well, aeroplan was actually losing customers that's why they extended it to 7 years, still better than many carriers who have 2 years the most.

I use Wells Fargo and Bank of America primarily because they are more internationally accepted and you can withdraw more money from the ATMS. They are considered tier 1 banks.

Also Union Bank and Washington Mutual cause they are convenient i guess?

Do you have one? If so, with what bank? And why?

Edit:* When I say why I mean, why that bank over the others.

Advantage Checking account with Wells Fargo. Ive been with them since 1996. Why? No fees. Reliable. Free online banking, free bill pay, free cashiers check/money order. It does offer a low interest rate (dont care about that though)

I have several online Savings/Money Market Accounts online that offer high yield interest rates like E-Loan, Emigrant Direct and HSBC. Currently E-Loan is offering 5.50% So I put my money there. These online accounts are easy to transfer to any banks with a click of a mouse. I am going put my money where I am offered the highest interest rates in the country.

PNC

why:
-free checking and savings

-because the PNC back ATMs allow you to cash/deposit checks for free.

Retail
The Centurion cardholder enjoys private access to a number of high-end retailers -- including Bergdorf, Bulgari, Gucci, Harvey Nichols, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue -- where he can request the assistance of a personal shopper. If he happens to lose or damage an item or two, purchases on the card are protected against such tragedies up to $50,000 a year. If that weren’t enough, the Buyers Assurance Plan extends the terms of the original manufacturer's warranty by three years, regardless of warranty length. This perk lends itself to the possibility that, on a lifetime warranty, a cardholder may enjoy coverage through his first three years in the afterlife. They say those are the hardest.
Hotels
The Centurion cardholder’s memberships in FHR (Fine Hotels and Resorts) and SLH (Small Luxury Hotels) give him access to 530 hotels worldwide and entitle him to free room upgrades, late check-out, a domestic staff eager to satisfy his every excess, and a complimentary continental breakfast for two.

If the cardholder books two nights at any participating Mandarin Oriental hotel (excluding the NYC property), he enjoys the second night free. The benefits are similar to the FHR program, except that the domestic staff is reduced to a butler’s help in the packing and unpacking process.
Travel
Arguably, it’s in this area that Centurion earns its keep. In addition to membership in Hertz #1 Gold Club and Avis President’s Club, some of the many benefits include:

* A personal travel consultant

* First class flight upgrades (when available)

* Membership in the International Airlines Program, allowing one complimentary ticket on transatlantic flights with the purchase of one first class or business ticket

* Access to 450 airport lounges in 80 countries via Priority Pass (Amex waives the $399 fee)

* Membership in the Private Jet Services Program, wherein the cardholder can either buy flight time on a private jet or assume fractional jet ownership with a half-dozen elite private jet carriers

* Up to $700 stateroom shipboard credit on selected cruises

* Membership in Space Adventures, a space tourism company, including privileged invitations to various space-related events. Additionally, the cardholder receives an annual credit toward the payment of a suborbital flight reservation. Yes, you read that right.

Travel insurance
Benefits include:

* Flight: As much as $3.5 million for death and dismemberment

* Baggage: Carry-ons up to $2000, checked baggage up to $1000

* Travel Delay Protection: If a cardholder’s flight is delayed beyond certain specified times, Amex allows him $250 for hotels, cabs and other expenses

* Delayed Checked Bag Program: If a member makes it to his destination but his bag is delayed for more than three hours, Amex allows him up to $500 for whatever he needs. Please double-check before ordering the in-room porno.

right, avoid high cost of living areas, these high of cost living areas do not match up with the salary and I know that for a fact living in California and my cousin who is a CPA in London. If you like big cities then live in a big city where the cost of living is low but the salary is high. An example would be Houston, Texas where I currently reside.

If you like big cities then live in a big city where the cost of living is low but the salary is high. An example would be Houston, Texas where I currently reside.

houston texas..ughh haha....doesn't sound like the most exciting city out there man. is chicago considered expensive? i know boston is... .. shit not alotta choice for BIG cities...more like second tier cities. ...

but yeah NY is obviously way to expensive..unless i commute from JERSEY hah

I don't need to.

I'm a college student who doesn't really need much at the moment besides somewhere to put savings into and a checking account with easy access and whatever I stated before. I got that so I'm pretty happy. :)

why does it matter if ur a college student or not. why would u put ur savings somewhere with a low interest, afterall u have to put ur money somewhere. might as well maximize the returns.

Eckjactly! Houston is not an exciting city. That is why the cost of living is so low here. There is lot of open land. Real Estate is very cheap here. Have not done research on Chicago. There are lots of big cities in USA

right, California and New York has lot to offers. Lot of stuff to do down there. barely any land left now and this why the real estate value is high. If you got money then I would definately move back to Cali but never NY. $35-45 starting will do u no good living in ca/ny.

pretty much any thing in Texas and Lousiana is affordable
