You know what annoys me? (The title of the thread kinda gives it away a bit but I know not all you are as bright as me :D )

Labels!

Why do companies find the need to have such big labels? And not only that, why are the labels always in the worst places?

Im wearing a Matthew Williamson  top i got from Debenhams and the label is on the ribs..it never used to itch me before but today I've worn the top after a while and it keeps on itching..NOT GOOD..

Why are labels for pants always on the back? I hate it when the damn label sticks out for six miles  Why cant the labels be on the side where nobody will be able to see?

The worst culprits of the labelling crime are Marks and Spencers, WHY are their labels so big? Theyre huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge and they stick out for miles and miles...Im pretty sure the labels are sometimes bigger than the items of clothing..and the itch-factor is unbearable.

Anyway, is it jus_me (hey, hey?) who is annoyed by this or do the rest of you suffer too? Albeit in silence?

I say we start a petition!

thats three names to the list

akash im adding you regardless of whether you agree or not

i hate that man, you buy designer stuff and you pay over the odds for it and then you cant wear it because the labels itch..then you cant cut them off incase people think theyre ex-display or you got them from some cheapo market so you stuck wiggling around like you got ants in your pants, well I for one have had enough!

lol, it doesnt work that way here..you have to come in and do stuff yourself..apply for the placement..if they like you, you get the TC..what i would suggest is that on your CV you write nearly everything you can about yourself..everything youve ever learnt, voluntary stuff etc..they love that kinda crap but yes you may, if it makes you feel better :D

we get in shit for doing stuff like that, one guy wanted his older sister to get a TC with them and he kept telling them how great she was and they fired him

they make you work to prove that youre good enough for the company, which i think is good..even if your grades are a bit off they will still consider you if youve done tonnes of other stuff (both voluntary and paid work)

its a very nice place to work, the people are very friendly and they help you if need help..not like other law firms where some of my friends went where they were treated like idiots.

mp3: the hours are long but there is a lot of job satisfaction too, to know that what youve done has an affect on people and the law..the work isnt easy and i have never ever so far had two days which were the same, which is good, its exactly what i wanted..a 9-5ish job but with variation, and i get that..there is a lot of interaction with the clients..you dont sit there like a spare part, you can actually give someone advice based on what you have learnt at uni.

So it's not all photocopying and just churning out letters then. As i am also soon starting my grad job, everyone says the same thing no two days are the same etc. A lot of them looked like they were just quoting a company slogan, which they had to tell grads. I hope my job is interesting too.

only if. What uni are you at, they must do milkround presentations etc. Send out a load of applications to as many firms as possible and get any experience you can.

When i started there they did say days would be boring and stuff but i havent found one day where ive been clock watching..and its not because ive bever worked in a law firm before, ive done all that stuff but on this scale its really fascinating..if you dont play your role then you could fuck everything up and you ARE told that so you just have to do some work..its very enjoyable even though its hard at times and im still learning stuff, thats why i chose law because you never stop learning..and the lawyer guy i work for is the best..it doesnt help matters that he's gorgeous but yeah..hes a very good teacher. Some of my friends have done their training contracts at other places where all theyve done is make coffee..they went for the vac placements and had a lot of fun because they did so many different things, got lured in for the TC and found it real boring, so yeah..go into stuff with your eyes open..if you dont like it after 3 months then get out of there, it wont get better.

Im not going into law but yeah will make sure the work is good. Everyone I ask at the company says it is interesting work. Time will tell i guess. Can't leave after 3 months even if I wanted to. These grad jobs have too many rounds and only start once a year.

If you dont like what youre doing, speak to the boss..i had to do some taxation cases for a week and i had the worst migranes..so i told him and he gave that work to someone else and i got to do something different..

this is why i like law, once you get your training contract youre pretty much guaranteed a job after the two years whereas other graduates have to hunt around for a lot longer.

Most grads that are in a company are employed permanently. But sometimes after the initial 2 year programme they decide on a permanent job offer or not in some places.

yeah i understand that, what im saying is when you do law, you need to graduate..do an LPC then a training contract..once you get the training contract (at the end of you second year) youre pretty much in with a job for life.

what im saying is you dont have to graduate and then start fumbling around trying to find a job..theres a bit more security in it.

Thats the case with most vocational type jobs. Once you are in and qualified, jobs are quite secure. So did you study Law or do a CPE first.

i did law..in my second year i applied for work exp at CC, i did that, they offered me a training contract, i said no because i wanted to do my masters..so they said i could work there part time, they would pay for half my masters and i was offered a training contract implicitly which i didnt know of until the other day..when ive finished my masters il do my LPC then the contract.

sssssash i cant remember where they did their contracts..some were magic circle and others were city firms but not magic circles.
