Basically, if we give each letter of the Arabic alphabet a numerical value between 1 and 1000. And then add up the values of 'Bismillah Al Rahma Al Rahim' - The total value comes to 786.

Then some people say it took Allah swt 786 to make the world.
And that Muhammad s.a.w took 786 days to conquer and win mecca over from the idol worshippers.

Its all innovation and you'll find the number 786 only bears any relevance to pakistanis, and not many muslims from around the rest of the world.

It doessn't mean anyting. 786 is a representation used in roman numerals, to say bismillah but has no significance. So don't waste time with it. It can only help amitabh Bachan nobody else.

P4ki4Lyf

okay this is the email i got, i know its long but its worth reading.

Allah has ordered us to begin any thing in the Name of Allah. i.e. We have to say or write "Bismillahirrahmanirrahim" Meaning In the Name of Allah, The Most Beneficent and The Most Merciful.

Numerology is prohibited in Islam. Some people have introduced this in Islam by giving some numbers to Arabic letters. Our innocent Muslims believe that this is also part of Islam. Islam is the true religion of Allah. He perfected His religion in all aspects. No one can introduce any new thing in the religion. Our prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has warned severely about the new innovation in Islam. He said "Any thing which is innovated in Islam is bid'a and all bid'a will go to astray, and all astray will lead to Hell fire"

Some people believe, that giving numerology numbers to the Arabic letters of "Bismillah..." then adding all these number will be equal to "786". So writing this number is equal to writing "Bismillah...". This is the believe of ignorant people, and they do not know what is real Islam. How a Number will be equal to The Name of Allah? Why do not they give number to their names and calling themselves as "486" , "568" etc instead of calling them as "Kamaludeen" or "Musthafa" etc.?

I want to inform to these people that, if you write ""Harre Krishna" in Arabic, and give the numbers to each letters as you gave to "Bismillahirrahmanirrahim", then add all these numbers, you will get the result, "786".

So, my dear brothers and sisters, let us follow what our prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has taught us, and start anything with saying or writing "BISMILLAAHIRRAHMAANIRRAHIM". We ask Allah to give us the Straight path and Allah is the Source of Strength.

The Shaytaan has sworn by Allaah’s Glory that he will mislead the sons of Adam. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “[Iblees (Satan)] said: ‘By Your Might, then I will surely, mislead them all, Except Your chosen slaves amongst them (i.e. faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism)’” [Saad 38:82].

yes. BUT as mere Human Beings, we don't know what the right path is. We can only hope that our sect of Islam is the correct one. But only Allah swt knows best. So we are in no position to label others Kaafirs because for all we know, we could be one ourselves.

It doesnt mean anyting is just a number, roman numerals used to convert the word bismillah. Used in a Amitahb Bachan film, so then every desi started using 786. Has no significance
