well i was wondering wht if a desi is born somewhere in the ghetto and all his freinds are black and just because of his surroundings he dresses the way he does and acts the way he does. than how can u guys say that he is so stupid he should not try to immitate the hip hop culture, well if thats all he has seen while growin up ofcourse he is gona be the way he is.

does that still make him a wannabe or is it only the guys who r rich and act like that??

an Indian born in a ghetto? thats unheard of. a china man might be raised in a ghetto, a whitie can be born in a ghetto, a paki might be born in a ghetto, but an INDIAN, no no. This is where impossibility meets imagination.

If ur not an Indian, u wouldn't understand these things. its too complicated for u.

its just that Indianess is a higher strate of Americanism, so Indians just can't be born in a ghetto. I have seen evidence of such ethnic biases in my own hometown. paki kids act ghetto, i don't know if they are born in a ghetto or not, but they wear ghetto clothes, baggy jeans, and wears headgear and sneakers. Indians are the total opposite. they wear tight branded clothes, and PLADS, and sandals;

well the thing is there he could be in a place with no desis but lot of black people so then he has no choice than to hang out with them and starts becoming like thme.

and abt the white thing, there are no desi people at all within a hour of me if i wana go to a desi place i have to drive for an hour. all my freinds r white, hispanic, asian and black but i m still desi as hell but thats cause i m a fob. i think things would be different if i was born here and didnt know any desis i would probably find a group to hang out with and be like them.

Sorry if this comes off as being a bit angry - it's not my intention.

I've working in the hip hop industry for several years and I don't know what's more ignorant of a concept: that the hip hop culture only has space for black people, or that one would assume that hip hop is an ethnicity and not a genre of music. I can only assume that the confusion comes from pop cultural images of hip hop and not from an understanding of true hip hop.

I think it doesn't matter where a person comes from or what his or her parents want for them, what country the person comes from or what religion they represent. Hip Hop is a form of expression that unites people and empowers voices.

I think the major question to ask is why people who like one genre of music or follow one type of lifestyle hate on others just because they are different? I don't think you see that from "thug desis" (or you can use the term that the hip hop community uses for them - people) - after all, the point of having a choice of what kind of music you like is freedom of expression.

Music was made to be good and likeable. Are we blaming people for liking good music? Or it is that they are passionate about it? I guess I don't get what people are hating on.

It seems pretty simple to me - a lot of desis love their hip hop. And I can only assume, that like myself, atleast a handfull of others associate their societal place in US, Canada and UK as being very similar to the struggles that hip hop illuminates - ie. post 9/11 racism.

I guess I'm somewhat bias as well. I would think much higher of a person who informs themselves with hip hop artists like talib, common and mos def, rather than somebody who indulges in bollywood bargirl item-number music - that's just self-destructive garbage. But I personally have mad respect for people who are fans of rock, electronica, lounge, sufi and bhangra - why? maybe cause that's good music. And that's why people SHOULD listen to their music.

Diversity is what makes us a wonderful race. Let's celebrate it and stop hating it!

No, that doesn't make him a wannabe. Desis are just too close minded to say that. When they're trying to diss someone who is dressed that way, that's the first comeback that comes to mind.."wannabe gangsta"

Which is funny, because when you see a desi dressed up in slacks and a button down he isn't called a white wannabe....... :dunno: Go figure.
