alcohol and pork should be freely available in an islamic country.........
it is not for the rulers to decide what religion its people should follow.........
in the pre-modern era, people were not criminalised for drinking alcohol if they were muslim, they were merely shunned by the religious..

I think he was reffering to the South African channel M-net that used to broadcast adult movies after midnight, but that was banned over a year ago. But we they do openly sell Porn flicks on dvd's, vcd's at any local video store.
Murree is available only at licensed liquor shops, and those liquor shops only sell Pakistani made liquor. They've been in business way before Musharraf came into power. We also have all kinds of American, European liqour availabe in Pakistan. Musharraf doesnt force people to drink. He openly does it tho because he's been shown on tv with a glass in his hand a couple of times.

Muree's dirt cheap, the beer is around 300 rupees, and the vodka and gin and shit runs for around the same price. The imported liquor is expensive though, but we can get anything you get over there. Starting at around 4 g's and then obviously get higher depending on the brand. The government does 'try to stop' the imported shit from coming in though because every few days we hear on the news that a cargo was seized worth something something lakh containing imporetd liquor, but that just ends up in the hands of top officials.

actually i do, but i wish i had read ur original comment before u edited it...... ;)
sharia is one thing yes, but the legislation of moral guidelines is something that is new to muslims....... sharia when it deals with issues such as corporate law or criminal, yes, that applies to all muslims, but when it deals with someones moral conduct......that is up2each and every individual, a muslim made to pray 5 times a day unwillingly is pointless.......
u should meet some iranians man, they're laws are so strict that whenever i made friends with iranians coming out of the country on holiday, they cant wait to drink, take drugs and call themselves zorastrian...... in the country they pretend to be muslim, outside, zorastrian... why? because the strictness of that country's regime drives people away from islam and not towards it.........
but yeah i know u'll probably say that shias are kaafir as if that negates my point.......

Wahhaabi - where did this term originate from?
See literalists are known as Dhaahiri's. Most of the Scholars in the Arabian Peninsula are not followers of the Dhaahiri Math-hab, rather they are from the Hanaabilah. So to say they are literalists is un-founded.
And, anyway, who cares? If someone wants to live under Islamic Law, it's upto them. If they don't want to, then no-one is forcing them.
And, yes, it's true, Iraan does not up-hold Islamic Law.

actually, if they are muslim, live in a muslim country and have sharia derived statutes in their legal system, they have no choice. they either have to follow islamic law or they break the law. thats not the issue here... the issue is the legislation of personal morality, that is something that should be completely out of the remit of the sharia courts...... whether someone drinks alcohol or not is up2them, not up2 the courts.
