The simple fact is this regarding Brazilians and Argies. I have been to both countries so I can say this with a bit more insight. Thierry Henry picked up on this too when he said little kids getting into football aged 6 or whatever can play as much as they want. 8 hrs a day if they want, cuz a lot of the ghetto kids there cant afford an education, so they play football instead. Like ALL the time.

Meanwhile players like zidane and henry and others have to go to school then play a couple of hrs a day at most. Therefore its not hard to see why Brazil and Argies constantly stream out good players. Brazil could easily take off their first 11 and field a 2nd 11 that would do pretty well in this world cup!

This is not a dig at any country, its just the way it is...

In Australia football was the immigrants/non whites game so I always ended up playing with the greeks/italians/croations etc and has a massive following here since i can remeber (only as far back as italia 90). But i know the point she is makin. I find it cute now that Australia made the cup all the goreh here are getting into it but they get all the terminology wrong.they call the refs umpires and a host of other stuff.makes the long term fans (aka all the ethnics cringe)

Some brits on here are pretty cocky, just cuz they watch soccer they think the rest of the world doesnt watch it as much as they do. I dont see the Brits compete and actually win in any sort of sport. Soccer is new in the US, we've been playing for about 15 years, and we've made more progress than England has made in 50 years. Give the US a few more World Cups and we'll be competing against the super-powers, still not as great, but good for sure.

If basketball, football, or hockey ever came to England, it would take them decades...hell centuries before they get a hang of it. Hell half of you 'footie experts' watch the game every 4 years when the world cup is on and latch on to it with the craze, of course, nothing wrong with that, the more the merrier, but quit pretending to be a bad ass cuz you watched a few games. In fact, I know more Americans who watch English primiership, Spanish primier, Italian, a few Asian and South American leagues, along with our own MLS. Most of you guys dont think outside of the English primiership

Thats an ignorant post right there. Players from EVERYWHERE play in NBA clubs. The US is to basketball what Europe is to football, which is why its called the 'world championship'; NHL has Canada, US, Russia, and other Slavic nations. Since when is there a World Championship for NFL?

alot of the players on the NBA are foreigners, Dallas Maverick's star player is from Eastern Europe, Yao Ming is Chinese and so on. There are several African, French, and even Latvian players in the NBA. Btw, NBA stands for National Basketball Association, and the finals are called, NBA finals, not World Championship. Same with NFL, it stands for National Football League, and the finals are known as the Super-Bowl, not the World Championship. NHL stands for National Hockey League, and they play for the Stanley Cup. There are alot of foreign players on the hockey teams here, from Canada, USA, Russia, and many other Eastern European countries. MLB is a joke...baseball doesnt even have a huge following in America, it lost its popularity against Basketball and Football, but MLB has international players on their team as well, from Japan, China, Cuba, Mexico, and many other Carribean countries.

Not to mention, the US usually takes more gold medals than any other country in the Olympics and Winter Olympics, not to mention we have several world class tennis players, we play soccer as well, the only sport that I can think of that the US doesnt compete in is Cricket.
