I'm debating a friend of mine...As to whom is the greatest band of all time..

I say it's either Red Hot chili Pepers or Oasis...What do you guys think? And none of this rap crap.

between the two you mentioned then its the peppers..

they go away for ages and come back with music that totally rocks my socks, and its different to stuff they have produced but still familiar enough for me to clock on by the music that its them..they do it in a way so as not to alienate new fans of the group. Oasis did make some good music but its all samey samey moany moany crap now.

Yeah ... I suppose thats true: plus Oasis hasn't come up with anything new in a while...But I love their style of music; monotone as it is - its what I dig. Thats why I like them so much.

LoL. we've started insulting already?

1. 15 year olds aren't preteens. They are teens. Usually from 13 onwards.

2. The last I checked with my brother who's 13, he listens to bands like nsync etc. Actually, most 15 year olds don't listen to Oasis. Mostly because their lyrics make no sense and aren't songs you can dance to.

3. A lot of people listen to the Beatles to this day. They get wide radio airplay. Infact I listen to the Beatles regularly and I was born way after they disbanded.

So who's the retard or dumbass now? I haven't said anything to indicate a retarded mind or dumb one, however, if you equate 15 to preteen, I will have to point out that your parents should not have procreated.

I'm sorry, I typo'd: cry me a fucking river. I ment to have said '15 year olds OR preteens'. I made a typing mistake: your arguments are perhaps better targeted else where?
I went to a RHCP concert a while back: Most the people there were 13-20 years old. With a handfull of various ages.
I listen to a lot of radio; I hear a beatles song VERY rarely.
You and I may listen to the beatles: but that doesn't mean the vast majority of the population does.

No. But you picked current mainstream bands as nominations. I have an objection to that. In my opinion other bands have long outperformed RHCP or Oasis.

My pick would exclude RHCP or Oasis.

I would pick Queen as the greatest band of all times. Their concerts had greater crowd pulling power than RHCP and Oasis combined.

Don't mind my anallish attitude. It had nothing to do with your status as new person. For all I know you are an older member with a new username.

I think you missed the word "current" there. That was key. You are comparing greats to current bands like RHCP and Oasis.

Oasis is mainstream. But that was not really the point. It was the fact that you're calling it "ALL time" and excluding the established legents who happened to retire long back.

for the average music consumer, it is the beatles, but

for anyone who picked up a guitar over the last 30 years and wanted to be a rock star, it is led zeppelin

they never had to make poppy teen anthems before making good music.

sadly the beatles had 3-4 years of pandering to the masses before finally giving mainstream audiences the finger and not touring again and retreating to the studio and putting out their best work, revolver onward.

I'd say George Harrison had just about as much of an impact on the guitar than Jimmy Page did. The definitive guitar player's idol would probably be Hendrix and his band.

yeah if Hendrix had a consistent band where all members were considered his equal/that kind of thing, then id say the hendrix experience hands down. but redding and mitchell were just there for the ride.

yeah forget them...but Hendrix is probably the most influential guitarist to have ever lived. Not the most talented or skilled, but definitely the most influential.

based on radio airplay it's led zeppelin. i believe stairway to heaven is the #1 requested song in a few countries including USA and the UK.

really depends on the genre. but I suppose if we're talking about generalized rock, the Beatles-- I can't think of another band more groundbreaking or influential.

as a metalhead/prog rock fan Opeth is by far the most amazing stuff I've heard-- this is a band that will go from death metal to jazz/blues within the same minute. They even have a bluesy album called Damnation.

metellica.

Haha, Dave Mustaine wrote most of their good shit (Kill 'em All, etc).

Megadeth is better by a longshot-- Marty Friedman eats Kirk Hammitt for breakfast.

Metallica went to shit after the Black Album and has thus ceased to make good music.
