That might be the goal here. Its like a chess game, one player sacrifices a piece in an attack and pays the price in the short run(international condemnation). But this sacrifice was just part of a grand scheme. The openent strikes back and loses the benefit just gained of sympathy.

Throughout their 60 year history the way that the Isrealis have gained territory as well as sympathy is when hotheaded arabs underestimate them and attack them. Then they counterratack and point the finger at the arabs with a military as well as a propaganda victory.

Its pretty obvious that they want to annex the west bank and expell the arabs. Why else would they send 0.1% of their population to colonize and dominate palestinians in a land area which they say they would gladly exchange for peace? I think the isreali govt would be horrified if there were no more militant attacks against them cuz then they would look like the bad guys to the whole world, the only way they keep this cycle going is by inciting violence themselves.
