Why are Bollywood movies banned in Pakistan~? Indian movies are popular in Africa and the middle-east, why does Pakistan ban Bollywood movies~? Is it because many Bollywood movies are anti-paki, or because they're too revealing, or it because they're afraid it would put Lollywood out've business........ anyone know~?

Pakistan may permit screening of Bollywood films
Monday July 12 2004 00:34 IST
IANS

LAHORE: The Pakistani government might lift a 39-year ban on the screening of Bollywood movies that distributors and exhibitors here have been demanding for long, Online news agency reports.

Citing the deteriorating state of affairs of Pakistan's cinema industry due to the lack of quality movies being produced, cinema owners have been asking for permission to screen Bollywood movies to improve their bottom lines.

This would be in keeping with the rapidly improving ties between the two nations, cinema owners and distributors have said.

However, some sections of the film industry say the ban, imposed after the India-Pakistan war of 1965, should stay.

Well-known actor Yousaf Khan has announced he would move the courts if the ban was lifted.

Bollywood movies are a huge hit in Pakistan with pirated editions available in markets around the country soon after their release in India.

Cinemas to get Bollywood permission in three months
By Anjum Gill

LAHORE: Federal Additional Secretary for Culture Zafar Ahmed said on Tuesday that Pakistani cinemas were likely to be given permission to screen Indian films in three months.

“A summary about the screening of Indian films in Pakistan is to be sent to the cabinet within a couple of days with comments from four different ministries,” Mr Ahmed told journalists at a seminar. He said the Culture Ministry had prepared a favourable summary and sent it for comments to the information, foreign affairs and interior ministries.

Mr Ahmed said the demands of the cinemas owners would be met if they upgraded facilities and security at their theatres. He said the Indian films would be subject to censorship.

Pakistani cinemas have spent a long time trying to convince the government that screening Indian movies is the only solution to the low audiences at cinemas. They have threatened to close down cinemas over the unavailability of Pakistani films. Quite a few cinemas have already been closed and several have been converted into theatres.

i heard that bollywood films used to be kinda of anti-paki...but now many actors and actressed refuse to take roles in movies that show any type of this kind of hatred...so now that bollywood films are getting to be less and less anti-paki, they are becoming more popular in pakistan
