im moving up north 4 uni and people keep telling me to stay in london but does anyone know what the student lifes like up there .. and no i dont mean JUST clubbin ..

food - charo chicken, leeds. rusholme chippy, manchesta, mumtaz, bradford. akbars are in all 3. and nandos too but only brad n manch have halal ones.

Ive been to Manchester quite a few times and its ok, nothing compared to the hustle and bustle of London. The town centre's good, loads of different shops and there's that new big wheel thats opened there. Theres loads of clubs for a broad spectrum of tastes but the bars are where its at. The Docks have some great bars. Obviously, theres the Trafford Centre a bus ride away and theres Wimslow Road for all the take-ways and Asian wide boys. Loads and loads of students which adds to the atmosphere.

That said, theres probably a lot lot more that even I aint seen.

i'd say the things that would take me to a place like manchester would be still having the urban stage to run wild on, while having a less...london pace of life. but then again, a city is a city and regardless of where you study, you aren't gonna see much of the countryside, you aren't going to see many folk other than asians and life's still going to be hectically urbanised.

if you stayed in london, you'd be staying in the capital city of the world, the world comes to london! im sure you've weighed this up a lot and i can sense how much you want to leave london and we've spoken about it before in some degree of depth. i think it's best to really be sure why you're so keen to leave. for example, there was absolutely no doubt i was going to leave ireland, and i couldn't wait to get to london - the endless opportunities to expand my horizons (and the alluring dream of establising myself in a top london hospital) screamed out for me to leave home, and once i did, i realised how much i wanted the home that wrapped me warm, tucked me in, whispered assurance in my ear - and how i never realised how much my family meant to me, despite differences here and there.

no matter how much you want to leave home, it's still hard being so far away from home; they say home is where the hurt is (hardly a convincing reason to stay) and i guess that's because home is where you are emotionally intertwined with people who mean something to you (in good OR bad ways). either way, once you leave, you pretty much get out of that loop. my mate neal is doing law at cambridge and we come home in holidays after most other unis have been off a coupla weeks and when we get home, we feel so out of the loop for a good week or so of catching up.

it's a big step upping and leaving; no matter what's drawing you there, no matter how much you need to go someplace else, it's a hard and irrevocable step. it's not a step you should take just because you need to be in some other place ie just for the sake of not being home...but if it's going to give you the kickstart you need, if there's enough chance of that, it's worth the risk.

so long as you know where the love is when you need it most, at the end of a phonecall or the long train ride back to the place that knows you best, home.

the pros - student friendly city, city centre bars, wilmslow road (for asian food n that!), trafford centre (for shoppin)
the cons - has the biggest student population in england
however, it is FULL to the brim of locals and asians (mainly pakistanis)

leeds
the pros - better diversity of ppl than manchester. lotta chinese, white and blacks. Quieter than manchester so if ur lookin for a quieter life this is the place to be. large town centre for shoppin
the cons - racism. summa the clubs around centre have strict no asian lads entry policy. oh and the locals like sheep

bradford
omg girl just stay away from this place. backward, full of freshies, racists and well the place is a dump

Last year we used to go there just because we knew we would get into a fight just for a fight we would go to Leeds. In the day time its alright though. Just pretend your Spanish!

Stockport road - Laziza (to fuck with wilmslow road) it serves the best halal food i have ever tasted...

Other places to eat in manchester and if u wanna keep to the famous wimslow road then visit...

Al medina....(indian)
Saajan cafe...(indian)
Al quds....(arabic)
Sadaf's (middle eastern)

Apart from food well Manchester boasts the trafford centre for hanging out for movies and shopping, all the bars along deansgate locks, you have the main city centre, you also have access to any big city attractions...

It's like a mini-london but a slower version...

Manchester is quite multi -cultural and ofcourse the universities are very good...

Bradford is like 2 million years behind...it's the only place where you can attend a part with 500 guys and one girl lol

Leeds is not a bad place but it's not much of a multi-cultural place...

u will areas with pakis ...or whites....or blacks..there's no balance...

So your best bet is get ya ass to Manchester and taste the flavour...
