my frind, 2 years ago he was finishin uni, his rents obiously wanted to get him married, his rents wanted to get him married to his cusion, this guy (note; hes had a gf for last 2 years) so he goes mental on his rents for sugesting such a thing(his rents are cusions too) n leaves home for 3 months, in these 3 months he decides hes gonna marry his girlfrind (who lives in US(we live in canada)), goes back home, tells rents about the girl, shows them a pic etc etc, his rents go over to US to see the girl......turns out that the girl is his cusion (mothers were sisters:|but their mom had 2 husbands so one was from one and one from another and they lives with their dads) ....iiirrroooonyyyyyyyy

a related couple that might have kids are only at risk for genetic problems if theres been a cross breed for generations. like their parents were related, their grandparents were related etc.

i personally wouldn't marry my cuzins, however i see nothing wrong with cuzns who marry that are complete strangers

but i read in the news that studies have not been able to prove that 1st cousin marriages indeed cause genetic disorders in offsprings
