is der ne1 else on ere hu r asians but dnt knw urdu or/and punjabi?/ im one of dem.. im kinda hopless wen it cums to talking in urdu.. my london accent gets in tha way lol.. omggg its soooooooooooo hard tryna talk to aunty jee n dat n there like dis dat n the other.. n im like come agen? i mean i knw enuff to get me thru one dnner party wer im left on ma own while ma rents chill wid sum old ppl but to have a convo wit dem o deaaar.... i was brought up being spoken to in english mainly, i knw a good amount of words to strin along a sentece but thats all....

yes i have a problem i cant speak read or write. i mean when i have guests over and most who are close to us know i dont know the language but others who speak to me in urdu i just go JI JI JI and then probablythey understand that i dont speak the language but i can understand it some what. i can also speak urdu but broken urdu so i just keep my mouth shut cause when i try everyone just laughs.

you cant speak urdu fluently because you didnt learn it when you were younger or because youve grown up speaking english...the fact that you have a london accent is immaterial, when you speak urdu or a language like punjabi or hindi you dont hear your accent in it, when i speak punjabi and my cousin from wales speaks it you cant tell that hes from wales and im from london

its just funny how try and justify not knowing urdu by saying your london accent gets in the way

if you cant speak it then say you cant speak it and if you want to justify the reasons as to why you cant speak it then by all means do so dont bring up some cock and bull story as to your accent being the thing holding you back

I can speak/read/write Punjabi, and I teach it at the gurdwara at weekends like an example of little brown girl perfection. But it's only because I was brought up this way. Funny, I was having this exact same chat with a taxi driver on Friday night, he was so impressed that I was a 'blethi' but could speak Punjabi he let us off 3 quid. It's important to know your parents mother tongue, it's pretty much integral to Asian culture. Lazy cunts :no:
