anyhow have any of yall seen this movie? Salaam Namaste was the last movie i saw that had a lotta hype and i don't know how this one passed by without hype it's such a good old school love story!! I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE it was great! you gotta see it and those of yall that have didn't you love raima sen's blue and purple sari? i did!

some how the story was a bit devdas like being neighbors, and the whole she's below him class wise thing n what not :) really nice to see these kinda good love stories opposed to the skin flicks bollywood has been producing left and right

the story was a bit like devdas because the setting and date are similar to the fact that both are bengali stories..

and the author of the novels is the same..

the movie was indeed good...it put saif in a new perspective...i havent seen much of him doing serious roles..but it was teh good.

they have sex in that song or should i say "make love"

the movie really touched hearts due to its rich cultureness and serious literary inputs that made the story amazing in all senses. no one has the talent these days to come up w/ script like that. sarot chandra chattophadyay's writing style always includes tragedy and class difference but we can all learn a great deal abt bengali novels written by him and others and the indepth richness of it.

i hope ur not calling parineeta an art type of movie cuz its jus another love triangle piece of bollywood crap and there's a false notion in many ppl's minds that bengali movies or the ones where the whole setting is bengali represent art cinema, they dont.
u can have art cinema in any language, depends on the content of the movie.

i agree w/ u on de fact dat it wasnt art cinema... parineeta was completely commercial but it was a hit, commercialy and criticaly, but de release of crap like salaam namaste and stuff overshadowed its success.

and yea i agree w/ u dat bengalies stores arent the only art films... check out stuff like iqbal, khamosh pani, matrubhoomi, etc etc... and it'll leave u breatheless...

It was a good movie...

BUT THEN...

Saif Ali Khan flipped out and started breaking walls with a bird bath instead of using the gate like a regular person and ruined the whole thing. Seriously, that was like preparing a gourmet meal and then having a food fight with it.

bollywood does a good job riping off movie. i dont care. bottom line is the i enjoyed watching that movie. Black was a copy too, but it was a super hit.

Salaam Namaste is bound to get more nominations then parineeta in the filmfare awards...plus songs are much better for SN too....preiti is very good actress.

silly as it looked... it was more symbolic... because he was finally able to tell his dad to fuck off and do wat he wanted in life... hence the breakin of the walls to get to the girl he loved, despite wat his dad thought... dats why everyone was cheerin him on in de end too...

it wasnt bout ' why doesn't he use de gate... :sarb: ? ' it was more bout... not givin a fuck wat his dad thought and livin his life on his own terms...

salaam namaste will get more nominations because award shows in de indian film industry is more bout popularity den merit... movies like salaam namaste cater to audiences abroad too... look at how many ppl in dis thread alone hadn't watched parineeta versus SN which almost EVERYONE prolly has...

salaam namaste was stupid....(a few high-larious scenes excepted ) whereas parineeta was smart and sensible...

The ending was so typically lame but the new actress is good, plus the slick back hair look on saif is so fuckable.

That was pretty bad symbolism, if you want to call it that. A little restraint would have been nice. The only thing the ending was missing was a flock of doves being set free into the great wide open.

lol... yea well it was written a LONG time ago... and dats de risk u run w/ period specific films... esp. ones adapted from novels... de symbolism and stuff might get lost in 2day's times...

eh well i liked it... altho de doves MIGHT have made it nicer... :sarb: lol :p

the songs from parineeta are hindi remakes of old bengali classics. I'm not saying salaam namaste songs are bad or anything, but they're typical bollywood numbers. they aren't really comparible.

the thing is if we are gonna steal movie plots and scripts we have an obligation to make it better, but salaam namaste wasn't better love wise then you've got mail and comedy wise than nine months it just didn't work at all esp that stupid aussie dude but that's my take on it and i see you think that's a better movie than parineeta...not a big deal i just cant get it maybe i would expect a high schooler to see things your way but i dunno i thought when ppl get older they want quality movies that refelct desi rich culture opposed to movies trying too hard to portray american desi life when they have no clue about it
