Man arrested on terror charges

EDITORIAL - whtimes@archant.co.uk

A 28-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on charges which include terrorism.

Kazi Nurur Rahman has also been charged with possessing three Uzi sub-machine guns and 3,000 bullets in a public place last Tuesday.

But anti-terrorism laws prevent us from revealing any details of his arrest.

The plumber appeared before Bow Street Magistrates' Court in central London on Monday.

He faced five charges, two of which are under the Terrorism Act 2000.

One charge made under section 17 of the act alleges that Rahman made three firearms and bullets available to another.

It is also suggested that he knew or had reasonable cause to suspect that they could be used for the purposes of terrorism.

Another charge under section 57 of the act alleges that Rahman possessed a firearm which might be connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

Rahman, from Meanley Road in Newham, east London, was remanded in custody until he appears at the Old Bailey on December 19.
