I went to a recruitment agency in London and they were so shit! All the guy wanted to do was tell me the name of the company which he could have done over the phone! Further, they put so much emphasis on some jobs when they are wack and when you turn them down they get all mooody on u!

Yeh i agree. Dad goes to me yesterday go to some recruitment agency and they'll help you out. Bollocks! I've sent my CV to alot of them and they call me help asking me questions that are already stated on my CV!

I disagree, a lot of times people go to recruitment agencies to hand in a CV for them to get you a job but in fact it would be a lot more helpful if you yourself knew what particular roles you are looking for. You need to make sure to list the skills you have and the types of roles you feel confident in pursuing and then they will adjust their search accordingly. I have been using recruitment agencies ever since I graduated and they have always helped me in getting interviews.
The reason why they call up and ask you those questions again is to make sure they have up-to-date information on candidates as a lot of times people send generic or old CV's without updating them. It's their way of doing the job properly and not relying on the candidate to give them the correct information first time round.
They shouldn't go moody on you, that's bad practice. I agree.

ok, the purpose of them signign people on to their books are for 1 purpose.
It increases the probability of them placing a person somewhere, not neccesarily you into a position which means more ££££ for them.
U need to select a small agency which is not one of the bigger ones to recive a little more of a personal touch, rather than come in and sign a few forms and not hear from them again.
Agencies very rarely give out the informaiton over the phone, once an interview has been arranged the details are emailed to you. My wife was with Reed, and in the spcae of her leaveing work she has 3 intervies, 2 job offers in a week.
they do work, you just have to pick the right ones, and cross your fingers that you dont get a prick handling you r account.
Also the best thing is to hassele them every other day in regards to whats happeneing with you ropportunities.

u know people who complain about recruitment agencies are the ones who dnt get up and go 2 as many recruitment agencies as poss!
remember once u given u CV in ur against tens if not hundreds of diff applicants for 1 job post and the recruiter has to find the perfect match for the job post in question!
but most people i know have been successful in recruitment agencies! i suppose its bad luck for sum of u!

yeah I am, I find agencies really patronising and irritating, I always get roles when applied directly to companies-much better method.

Ah man, it really depends. Specialised jobs dont always get advertised internally or on a company website and sometimes agencies have a better link to those particular roles. Graduate schemes and training schemes on the other hand are better to be applied to directly.
After graduating, I went with 3 recruitment agencies and I knew what I wanted to do and what I wanted to get into, salary expectations etc and within 2 weeks I had 5 job offers from different interviews I was being sent to. Works for some, not others.

They dont make any money until they place a candidate in the job, smartypants. Data protection laws prohibit them from passing on your details without your consent.

There are disclamers that you dont evenknow when you sign up and provide your info. Its all shady hard to understand. Bbut still they can share out your info under their policy. I know my cousign works for a some call centre and thats how they get their lead from. --Lead Category - work at home targer group . If makes any sence to ur smart ass that is.

No one can sell on information unless they are the information holders.............basicl Data protections law prohibit any firm or individual passing on information.
There are sepcialist firms will build leads and collate data espicially for this purpose...they build databases, of information and then SELL the information.
hence all these cold calls about form you may have filled in at some stage in the 70's about possiblemobile phones.........
Best thing is to ask where the information cam from and tell them to remove you..
as for agencies, they only get paid once you rplaced, but the irony is that when you register with one branch...........they dont shre the information with other branches.......as they want the commision if you get placed.
