I'm ex-Sunni. I was born into a Sunni family. When I realized how meaningless it was, I abandoned all sects and followed(or at least attempted to) the Quran and the Quran only from then on. I thank AntiDesi greatly for opening my eyes. He made me aware that the 5 pillars, sunnahs, hadiths, etc. weren't in the Quran. But don't get it twisted, yo. He didn't make me abandon sects among Muslims. I chose to. He just told me about it and how it violated the Quran. What AntiDesi told me was the truth, and the truth was so obvious that I had to believe it. And you can also count on AntiDesi to provide you with metal...:rockon:

When people are brainwashed into thinking a religion is the ultimate truth and is this extremely precious gift from God, they become very protective of it.

So when people start to disagree, they not only take it as a disagreement, but also an attack on their religion and on God, all due to the brainwashing.

while this is true, hadiths impose a timeline on the religion. perhaps 7th century arabia is not the way to go now. most hadith are region specific too. as long as hadiths dont contradict the Quran and make life harder for a muslim I dont think it's a bane. A lot of hadith do that. Hadiths are also edited by different sects to suit their purposes. This became apparent to me when my pal showed me a hadith pulled out of sahih bukhari and showed me the version followed by shi'ites and the version followed by sunnis.. anyway, that's my 2 cents..

Hadith is only used to interpret the Quran, not establish its validity. By denying Hadith altogether, you deny very important aspects of Islam...i.e. Wuzu, prayer 5 times a day, etc. While I respect your opinion that their are fabricated Ahadith out there, there are still Hadith which are considered authentic by a majority of scholars, Hadith of which the line of narrators can be traced right back to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself.

And how exactly would you perform Wudu according to the Quran? does it provide specific guidelines on how to go about doing it? no. Are prayers, the Isha prayer for example, mentioned in the Quran, no. The Quran is the word of Allah, the principles of Islam, and Prophet Muhammad interpreted that which we wouldnt normally understand by just reading the Quran.
