In this week's Hip-Hop charts, Jadakiss is off to a fast start, The Beastie Boys check in at #1, D12 strikes back and Petey Pablo free falls.
With "Why" picking up steam, Jadakiss's latest LP which debuted this Tuesday is flying off the shelves. According to early reports, Kiss Of Death is on pace to sell up to 250,000 units in its first week, possibly enough to land Jada his first #1 album. After several in-store appearances this week, Jada will appear on national TV tonight on the Jimmy Kimmel live show.
With "Ch-Check It Out," enjoying heavy radio and TV rotation, The Beastie Boys have shown that, despite the gray hair, they're still relevant. In its first week, To The Five Boroughs debuts at #1-selling 360,000 units according to Nielsen's Soundscan. However, some fans are furious over claims that the copy-protected version of the album is automatically and covertly installing spyware on user's PCs. EMI Records and Macrovision, which developed the software, refute these claims.
After spending 7 weeks on the downslide, D12 is now back on the rise. The dirty dozen has also just released "How Come," the second single from their sophomore effort. With a 16% boost, D12 remains at #7-selling 68,507 copies of D12 World according to the Hits charts.
Further down the charts, Kanye West's sales have fluctuated in the past month. Now, with the hype surrounding his new single, "Jesus Walks," Kanye is likely to up his sales once again. The single presently holds the top slot on New York's Hot 97 playlist and the third on Los Angeles' Power 106. Furthermore, The Louis Vutton Don was in New York to premiere three videos for "Jesus Walks" earlier this week. In his 19th week, Kanye drops 8% and 8 slots to land at #19-selling 41,280 units of The College Dropout according to the Hits charts.
Right behind him, Black Eyed Peas are celebrating one year on the charts. With an 8% decline, the Peas' Elephunk drops 10 positions to #20 selling 41,184 CD's according to the Hits charts.
At #21, Method Man has finally stopped sinking. This week, Tical 0: The Prequel equals last week's sales, but still slides 6 spots to land at #21 selling 40,818 units according to the Hits charts.
Four slots behind, Outkast has suffered one of its healthiest slumps since releasing Speakerboxxx/The Love Below debuted nine months ago. In its 39th week, Kast takes a 4% hit and slips 9 positions to #25 selling 38,813 records according to the Hits charts.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z's sales have picked up following a two-week slump. In its 31st week, The Black Album jumps 15% and 2 positions to #27 selling 37,833 LP's according to the Hits charts.
Lastly, Juvenile continues to climb while 8Ball & MJG and Petey Pablo take a severe hit. With "Slow Motion" now added to MTV rotation, Juvenile's Juvey The Great is making a run for the top of the charts. With an impressive 33% hike, Juvey rises 9 positions to #30 selling 36,019 copies according to the Hits charts. In the meantime, 8Ball & MJG and Petey have both suffered from double digit falls. In their 6th week, the Memphis duo drops 12% and 17 spots to #37 with sales of 33,451 CD's while Petey dives 16% and also drops 17 positions to #45 selling 29,196 records according to the Hits charts.
Next week, look for Jadakiss to contend for his first #1 title and Erick Sermon to make a Top 20 entry into the charts.
