ok just de fact dat bollywood, the film industry of a 3rd world country, is beatin, and not only dat but doubling the film industry of the most powerful nation in the world in some areas of business annualy, just shows how much bollywood is bttr in term of figures than hollywood. and ur just stuck on marketin? i mean india has SO many problems, but annualy and globaly they're more well known and makin more profit, than hollywood. Isn't that an achievement all on its own.? Name one other film industry that is kickin hollywood's ass as much as Bollywood... but for sum reason bollywood is still considered the underdog.
and the marketing thing, you have to realize that, almost 35-40% of de time, when an indian film gets made in india, its thru outside funding, so those film makers only have enough money to ge the film made, not enough to market it afterwards. It's not a business flaw, its just circumstances. Movies like Chandi Bar, Mr. & Mrs. Iyyer, etc were all movies that werent marketed that well, but ended up doing pretty damn good, both criticaly and commercialy. And not enough marketing is the case in hollywood too sometimes. How many of us had actualy heard about movies like hotel rwanda, sideways, monster's ball, etc BEFORE they had gone to the oscars? u see wat i mean?
and u said dat bollywood is too predictable? granted there are still those films that are all predictible and stuff, but you gotta check out some other ones these days that are pretty good actualy. Movies like chocolate, page 3, sarkar, yahaan and such... are doing different things with the storyline, direction, music, etc...
u cant make judgements or decisions on a film industry based on like a cpl of movies dat u watch, compared to like hundreds they make within a yr...

umm i can help you in someways... just with things that pop into my head at least :P i mean with companies in bollywood. keep in mind tho that some of the names i give u might have different registered names. if u know wat i mean? but i'll give u the names of the ceo's too so u can search for it and get the official stats. and give u a lil inside info on each too ok? :)
Yash-Raj Films - Owner: Yash Chopra (Production House. Probably the biggest production house in Bollywood, w/ movies like Hum Tum, Dhoom, Salaam Namaste, Bunty Aur Babli under their belt. They also have a distribution house, music label, and do a lot more than just produce.)
Dharma Productions - Owner: Karan Johar (Production House. Only done a few movies, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, K3G, Kal Ho Naa Ho & Kaal. But they've established themselves as one of the most reputed houses. )
Mukta Arts - Owner: Subhash Ghai (Production House. Movies sch as Yaadein, Kisna, Iqbal, Aitraaz, etc. He also has a school of acting and film making that you might want to look into as well.)
The Factory/Ram Gopal Varma Productions - Owner: Ram Gopal Varma (Production House. My personal favourite. Movies such as D, Sarkar, Company, Rangeela, Jungle, Bhoot, etc. Have a LOT of projects stalled and in production. Pioneers of unconventional cinema. Always make low budget movies, almost 1/10 of the budget of the houses above, but are still competing with them. )
UTV Motion Pictures - (Broadcasting company who have branched out into production and distribution in the last few years. Produced movies like Lakshya, Swades and distributed others like Parineeta, D, etc. )
Tips - (Music label that have produced/distributed movies in association to other individual producers. Have done a LOT of movies. )
Venus Records & Tapes Pvt. Ltd. - (Same as tips, but have done a lot of miscellaneous work in various movies from the eighties. More recently have developed into a production house, but also a music label with rights to most of their own films as well as other films that AREN't their own productions. )
Red Chillies Entertainment - Owner: Shah Rukh Khan (Production House. Owned by bollywood's biggest star. Responsible for successes like Chalte Chalte, Kaal, Main Hoon Naa, Paheli. )
dats all i cud come up w/ off de top of my head... hope all this helps, g'luck!
