first, as a 17 y/o, she has the right to confidentiality by state law so she does not have to 'fess up to her parents or anyone else.

secondly, she should go to a doctor before an abortion clinic. you do NOT go to an abortion clinic first .. the doctor will first check your hcg blood level, basically confirms that you're pregnant. and then going by the last period, will try to give an age to the fetus. Based on this age, there are different options .. abortion if the fetus is less than 10 weeks (heart starts beating around 12 weeks IIRC).

thirdly, she needs to be checked up for STDs which can be harmful to the fetus if she decides to check up for it. again, another reason to go to the doc and not to the abortion clinic.

Dilation and Evacuation (D & E)
At 12 to 20 weeks. (By week 12, the baby's bones are hardening and can no longer be sucked apart. Abortion is now achieved by dismemberment.) A seaweed-based substance ("laminaria") is inserted into the cervix causing dilation. The next day forceps with sharp metal teeth are inserted and parts of the baby's body are torn away with a twisting motion and removed piece by piece.
