I must have seen at least 15 threads on the CD forums over time, with someone sadly lamenting, or complaining about how there is so much Islam bashing going around every where these days, including on RD.

I personally am in agreement that this phenomenon does seem to be prevelent presently. I think a lot of it has to do with the current geo-political climate, with the sort of undeclared clash of cultures that is going on between the Arab/Islamic world and the Western world. (please note, i am using the term 'Islamic' to refer to the 'culture', not to the 'religion'. in other words, i am refering to the muslim nations and their populations, NOT the religion of Islam)

But anyway, I made this thread to see if we can get a discussion running on a seperate (well, not entirely) issue...one that has captured my interest for a long time.

I think it would be fair to say that there is really only one parallel to the level of apprehension, animosity, and even downright hatred that many in the west are presently harboring towards the Islamic world. And that would be the almost universally global phenomenon of anti-semitism.

Yes, i understand that anti-'semitism' is an incorrect term, since 'semitic' referes to anyone of middle-eastern ethnicity. Lets not get caught up in that complication.

I am refering to the all too familiar and seemingly forever existant hatred of Jews.

The majority of Orthodox christians/Catholics/Protestants/Communists hate them, and I don't think it would be inaccurate to say that the majority of muslims hate them too. Together, this group makes us for nearly half of all mankind.

History tells us that Jews have faced such hate, dissent, and repugnance for 3000+ years.

What i'm wondering is, how can one (tiny) group of people be the target of so much hatred and persecution by so many others, over such a long period of time?

Also, lets keep a clear distinction between Israelis and Jews. We all know Israel is censured severely and almost unanimously for its treatment of the Palestianians, but Jews in other countries are hated nonetheless, and have been hated much longer than the state of Israel has even existed.

Also, i've noticed that any topic involving Jews inadvertantly tends to become a passionate and controversial topic. This is ratedesi and we don't have any Jews here. SO everyone feel free to voice your opinion (good or bad) BUT make sure you keep a check on your emotions and DO NOT start flaming others who may post conflicting viewpoints. Doing so would only display your immaturity and insecurity.

The answer to your question is, because that's the way it has been for a long time. Haven't you noticed, even in your normal day activities that when a tradition has started it takes a while to break it.. I personally don't know many Jewish people, but that's not because I don't like them and I am Muslim, but that is only because I don't associate with the pricks.. I guess if you wanted you could say I am very anti-social. Anyway, back to the point, the Jews I know though are very nice people, and some of them are straight up assholes. no, it's not a poor argument.
i'm not saying that it's okay for individuals to judge on misconceptions. large groups of people (whose opinion your question is centered on), however, tend to judge other large groups based on the negatives rather than the positives, which is why the "phenomenon" of recent anti-muslim rhetoric shouldn't be surprising.
